Mixed media, digital sound, and online performance
Presented online with Casa Polígono, Mexico City, Mexico, 2020

Wordless Dialogue was a collaborative research project between composer Eduardo Garcilazo and artist Pia Watson investigating alternative forms of communication beyond written and spoken language.

The project began with a 28-day exchange in which Watson and Garcilazo independently created and exchanged visual and sonic messages without direct contact. Each day, Watson produced a visual response in the morning while Garcilazo created a sound response in the evening, establishing a dialogue based on intuition, translation, and perceived connection rather than conventional communication.

In 2020, during the pandemic, the project expanded into a series of online participatory performances presented through Casa Polígono. Through live sessions, participants were invited to engage in experiments of perception and reception, attempting to intuitively receive colors and shapes transmitted by Watson and responding through messages shared with the artist. The final session incorporated live sound by Garcilazo, extending the dialogue into a collective experience.

Wordless Dialogue examines the possibilities and limitations of language, questioning how meaning is created, transmitted, and interpreted through sensory experience, intuition, and shared attention. The project became a foundation for Watson’s continued exploration of perception, intuition, and non-verbal communication in subsequent works.
